The alleged suicide of Jeffrey Epstein is a cultural moment like no other in American history.
Epstein was understood far and wide to be a bonafide scumbag, and that is a term not to be used lightly. The convicted pedophile was in custody in one of America’s most secure detention facilities on charges of child sex trafficking when, somehow, he was able to kill himself with a bedsheet while his guards slept and the cameras inside his cell were malfunctioning.
Oh, and let’s not forget that it is widely believed that Epstein had blackmail material on some of the world’s most powerful people, including some who’ve lived in the White House and in Buckingham Palace.
Now, as if the suicide story wasn’t unbelievable enough, a new twist to the tale has come to light.
Surveillance video near deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s New York City prison cell during his first suicide attempt is missing, prosecutors said Wednesday, according to the New York Daily News.
Speaking before a White Plains District Court, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Swergold said he and others have not been able to track down the security footage outside of Epstein’s cell, which he shared with accused murderer Nick Tartaglione.
The Daily News reports:
A spokesman for the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office and Bruce Barket, an attorney for Tartaglione, confirmed the stunning revelation that the footage was not preserved. Tartaglione’s attorneys filed a request for the footage to be retained two days after Epstein’s unsuccessful suicide attempt on July 23, Barket said.
The unbelievable nature of Epstein’s demise has spawned a viral internet meme in which the message “Jeffrey Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself” is inserted into any number of situations, including, of all things, the finding of a lost frisbee on a disc golf course:
The internet conspiracy theorists are certain to have something to say about this latest development.
