There has been a war brewing inside the Democratic Party for a good long time, and the entire nation has seen it turning and tumbling for years now.
The old guard, the Biden’s and Clintons of the nation want the party to stand for the old status quo, from back before Donald Trump turned the nation’s capital upside down in an attempt to “drain the swamp”. These establishment figures just want to go back to the way things were before, as opposed to moving forward and past where we are today.
And while this sort of amoebic split is probably a necessary evolution for the party, it comes at a time in which the organization needs to be unified if they want to defeat Trump and retake the White House.
It’s not just the old guard clinging to their ways that’s keeping this rift alive, either. The young radicals of the party are similarly tugging at the wheel, hoping to soon see the party veer hard to the left.
One of those young radicals, freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, even went so far as to insinuate that her own party is suppressing the vote in order to remain in control during an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News.
Baier asked, “You did a campaign event at the University of Michigan, 10,000 people; it was rock star status, but those kids did not show up at least if you look at the numbers, overall, this race. How can you say the progressive position is still prevailing nationwide when Joe Biden is winning so much? ”
Ocasio-Cortez said, “I think one thing that isn’t being talked about is the rampant voter suppression in this country. Right there in Ann Arbor where we had that rally, those kids were waiting three hours in line to vote in Michigan. When we talk about who’s turning out and who’s not turning out.”
AOC’s insinuation will undoubtedly play into the conspiracy theories held by supporters of Bernie Sanders, who’ve already suffered a rigged election at the hands of Hillary Clinton back in 2016.
