When Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the playing of the National Anthem all the way back in 2016, the demonstration was railed against mightily.
Americans who long revered the playing of the Star Spangled Banner were incensed. They believed that the quarterback was purposefully disrespecting the military, the flag, and the nation as a whole.
Kaepernick and his supporters insisted that the NFL second stringer was simply getting your attention – which is what protesting is for, any how.
Four years on, it looks as though the once-incendiary practice has become blasé.

Is the kneel the new norm? Will American sports now be known for its political iconography right there in the open?
There is only a short season of Major League Baseball to come, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t see a whole lot of action…both on and off the field.
