For the parents of Gabby Petito, there will be no true justice it seems. The young woman’s fiancé, Brian Laundrie, was found dead in the Carlton Reserve near his parents’ Florida home, having gone missing just days before her body was found near a campsite that the two shared in Wyoming.
Laundrie, who refused to speak to police investigating Petito’s disappearance and subsequent murder by strangulation, infuriating not only Gabby’s family but the larger public as well.
Now, some weeks after Laundrie’s partial remains were found in the Carlton Reserve, authorities are revealing his cause of death.
Deceased fugitive Brian Laundrie died of suicide, a forensic anthropologist told Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino on Tuesday.
Laundrie took his own life with a gunshot wound to the head, Bertolino said.
The lawyer then made an obtuse and uncouth statement.
“Chris and Robert are still mourning the loss of their son and are hopeful that these findings bring closure to both families,” he said.
A journal found near Laundrie’s remains appears to have been at least partially salvageable, but police have not yet revealed the contents of the evidence.
Should the journal contain information regarding the death of Gabby Petito, and Laundrie’s potential involvement in that death, it is unlikely to be considered a full and factual accounting of the circumstances – at least not for those who are still mourning the death of the promising young woman.
