Colorado Signs New Sweeping Gun Control Law

If you believe in the Second Amendment, now is not the time to be asleep at the wheel. Colorado Governor Jared Polis just signed into law one of the most extreme gun control measures in American history—and make no mistake, this isn’t just an “assault weapons” ban. This is a de facto ban on most modern firearms, including semi-automatic rifles and virtually all handguns with detachable magazines.

That’s not political rhetoric. That’s what the law says.

This isn’t some minor regulatory tweak. This is an unconstitutional power grab, and it’s being cheered on by gun control activists who won’t stop until the Second Amendment is nothing more than a historical footnote.

The new law bans the manufacture and most sales of semi-automatic firearms with detachable magazines, which includes:

  • AR-15 style rifles and other commonly owned semi-automatic rifles

  • Most semi-automatic handguns currently sold in the U.S.

  • A wide range of legally owned firearms used for self-defense, home protection, and lawful carry

This law doesn’t target rare or exotic weapons. It targets the most commonly used and purchased firearms in America—guns protected under the Constitution and specifically reaffirmed in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008). The Supreme Court held in that case that firearms “in common use for lawful purposes” are explicitly covered by the Second Amendment.

There is no legal ambiguity here. This Colorado law flies in the face of established constitutional precedent. Polis knows that. Every legislator who voted for this knows that. And they passed it anyway.

Let’s not kid ourselves—this is not about public safety. This is about control. Colorado’s law sets the stage for a domino effect across left-wing states. If this law is allowed to stand, you can bet that California, Illinois, New York, and others will quickly follow suit with copycat legislation. If that happens, half the country could become off-limits to the lawful ownership of the most basic self-defense tools Americans rely on.

The anti-gun lobby has already made it clear: they won’t stop at so-called “assault weapons.” They want every gun. They’ve said it. They mean it. And now, with Polis leading the charge, they’re closer than ever to making it happen.
