Well, well, well—looks like Democrats are getting a taste of their own medicine. For years, they’ve weaponized rhetoric, encouraged their base to “fight in the streets,” and demonized their political opponents as threats to democracy. But now that Trump’s DOJ is holding them to the same standard they set for everyone else? Suddenly, they’re crying foul.
Let’s start with the facts. The unhinged rhetoric from the left has been spiraling out of control for a while now. It’s one thing to call Trump and Musk names on MSNBC panels—it’s another to openly call for violence. But that’s exactly what we’ve seen from some of the more extreme voices in Congress.
Case in point: Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), who went on CNN and declared that Democrats needed to bring “actual weapons” to the fight against Elon Musk. That wasn’t some fringe activist talking—it was a sitting member of Congress, on national television, calling for literal violence against an appointed government official. And now? He’s scrambling to walk it back, saying he was just speaking “metaphorically.”

Metaphorically? That excuse doesn’t fly anymore—not after Democrats spent years twisting Trump’s words to justify impeachments, indictments, and censorship. Remember how they claimed that saying “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard” was somehow an incitement to insurrection? Well, if that was the standard then, why should Garcia get a free pass now?
And it’s not just Garcia. The very same day Trump was inaugurated, DOJ officials sent an inquiry to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) over his infamous threats against Supreme Court justices. Back in 2020, Schumer stood on the steps of the Supreme Court, fired up a crowd of pro-abortion activists, and declared:
“I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh: You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price!”
Ed Martin, the interim U.S. attorney for D.C., sent a letter to Rep. Robert Garcia’s office as part of a new initiative to prosecute threats against public officials at all levels. Martin asked for clarification on Garcia’s comments on CNN last week, when he said: “What the… pic.twitter.com/JjwgkgiWGL

Now, Trump’s DOJ is asking Schumer to clarify exactly what he meant by that. And how did Schumer respond? By having an aide send back a weak excuse about how he was actually talking about elections, not threats. Oh really? Because when Trump talked about “fighting like hell” in 2020, that wasn’t about elections, right? Funny how that works.
This all falls under Operation Whirlwind, the DOJ’s new initiative aimed at cracking down on threats against public officials. And if Democrats want to call it a crackdown on free speech, they should take it up with the version of themselves from a few years ago—the same people who pushed for Trump supporters to be arrested, censored, and banned from public life for things far less incendiary than what Garcia and Schumer have said.
Fuck Donald Trump, Fuck Elon Musk and Fuck the Federalist Society judges who enable them. https://t.co/2z6ctFtXyU

And let’s not forget—this isn’t just rhetoric. We’ve already seen real threats come from these radicalized talking points. Over the summer, Trump survived two assassination attempts, one of which failed only because he turned his head at the right moment. Then, in January, a Massachusetts man walked onto Capitol grounds and turned himself in, allegedly admitting he planned to assassinate Speaker Mike Johnson, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. These aren’t harmless words—this kind of rhetoric has real consequences.
So now that the DOJ is actually taking these threats seriously, the left is panicking. Garcia is backpedaling, Schumer is dodging questions, and Democrats are accusing Trump’s DOJ of trying to “stifle dissent.” The irony is almost too rich.
