We are living in some fairly unique times, folks. This is something that our modern, digital world had not yet seen: A global pandemic.
Worse yet, an abundance of evidence suggests that the unsuspecting world was allowed to be ravaged by the illness after China manipulated their own data, downplaying the effect of the virus. Whether this was negligent or nefarious has yet to be determined, and will undoubtedly be the subject of great debate in the coming weeks.
So, when Americans got word that they would have to stay home and isolate in order to beat this invisible enemy, they got to work. And by “work”, we meant that they all binge-watched an absolute nightmare of a television program entitled “Tiger King”.
On the bright side, however, this social distancing seems to have worked.
Dr. Anthony Fauci confirmed at the White House on Monday that new data from New York were showing promising signs of turning around the rise in coronavirus cases.
Fauci cited the number of hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care leveling off in the last three days in New York as positive news. The statistics were also shared Monday afternoon from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“Everybody who knows me knows that I am very conservative about making projections, but those are the kind of good signs that you look for,” Fauci said, adding, “That’s the first thing you see when you start to see the turnaround.”
Fauci notably shared optimism voiced by President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Gov. Cuomo about the numbers, but warned the American people not to declare victory prematurely and urged to continue to keep the policies of social mitigation going.
But this isn’t a sign that you should go out and start partying again. It appears crucial that we stay the course on social distancing until at least April 30th, in order to mitigate the risk of a viral reverberation.
