The investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk has taken a decisive turn. On Monday morning, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that forensic teams have matched DNA from two separate pieces of evidence directly to the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson.

Appearing on Fox & Friends, Patel explained that investigators recovered Robinson’s DNA on both a screwdriver and a towel wrapped around the bolt-action rifle believed to have been used in the killing.

“I can report today that the DNA hits from the towel that was wrapped around the firearm and the DNA on the screwdriver are positively processed for the suspect in custody,” Patel said.

The findings put Robinson, 22, squarely at the scene of the Sept. 10 attack at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was assassinated in front of students during a campus event. According to authorities, Robinson fled immediately afterward — leaping off a roof, sprinting through nearby woods, and abandoning the rifle wrapped in the towel later recovered by police.

Robinson was arrested Friday after his father persuaded him to turn himself in. Since then, law enforcement says the suspect has refused to cooperate during interrogations. Officials in Utah have placed him under “special watch” as he awaits formal charges of capital murder, weapons violations, and obstruction.

The DNA revelations arrive as the investigation continues to piece together Robinson’s motive. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has said Robinson harbored a “leftist ideology” and may have been radicalized online.

FBI officials also revealed last week that a note, discovered in the home of Robinson’s transgender partner, declared: “I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”

Forensic science is now providing the hard evidence to back up those early suspicions. With DNA placing Robinson’s hands on the weapon and the tools he used to prepare it, prosecutors appear to be assembling a case that is growing stronger by the day.

Charlie Kirk’s murder shook the nation, sparking both mourning and outrage. Now, with the DNA link confirmed, investigators are tightening the noose around the man accused of pulling the trigger.
