Former President Trump Draws Conservative Backlash

Former President Donald Trump has come under fire from conservatives after using far-left organizations and media outlets to attack Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the state of Florida. Trump reportedly used data from the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) and the Florida Policy Institute to attack DeSantis for allegedly leading the state “to tumble into complete and total delinquency and destruction.”

While it’s understandable to have political disagreements, using far-left sources to attack fellow conservatives is not the right approach. Trump’s use of data from the NLIHC, an organization “dedicated to achieving racially and socially equitable public policy,” and the Florida Policy Institute, a left-leaning organization that claims to be non-partisan, is concerning.

Trump also used a far-left source, MSNBC host Joy Reid to attack DeSantis.

More Americans have moved to Florida over the last few years, including Trump himself, than any other state in the country. This is due in large part to the freedoms that were protected in the state during the pandemic. While some may disagree with Governor DeSantis’s policies, it is undeniable that he has done an exceptional job in leading Florida during these challenging times.

Conservative voices, including Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro and radio host Buck Sexton, have also spoken out against Trump’s remarks. They pointed out that DeSantis flipped Florida from purple to solid red in one term, did an excellent job during the pandemic, and attracted almost one million people to move to Florida in his first term.

Buck Sexton tweeted,

Former Trump Campaign Rapid Response Director Matt Wolking tweeted: “Trump just cited the pro-BLM, Zuckerberg-funded National Low Income Housing Coalition, a member of the George Soros-funded Alliance for Justice, in order to attack Governor DeSantis and trash the state of Florida. What happened to Donald Trump?”

Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro tweeted, “This is total crap belied by the hundreds of thousands of people becoming Floridians since 2020 — including my family, my parents, my in-laws, and two of my sisters’ families. This dog won’t hunt. It’s just stupid.”

Trump’s comments about Governor DeSantis and the state of Florida continue to draw strong criticism from conservatives. Florida is a fantastic state that has attracted millions of people from across the country, including many conservatives. It’s a state that promotes freedom and prosperity, and we should be proud of its success.
