While it is undeniably true that the holiday season in the United States relies on a great deal of consumerism to keep the proverbial wheels on the figurative bus metaphorically spinning, the reason that we are able to push back the guilt of personally-reckless spending is that much of it is in the name of generosity and love.
We buy gifts for our family and loved ones, we donate to charity, and many of us welcome our misfit friends into our homes for a good meal and fine company.
This year, the holiday spirit was alive and well in one of the world’s most terse and tense places: The New York City subway system.
Thanksgiving is the season to share a delicious meal with others, and passengers riding an L train New York City got to be treated to a holiday meal during their evening commute this week.
Footage captured by Haylee Pentek on Tuesday shows a long table set up with an elaborate traditional Thanksgiving spread, including turkey, sweet potato, and macaroni and cheese.
Social media users were raving.
“The mac and cheese was fire,” Pentek said on her Tik Tok post, and told Storyful that she happened across the celebration by chance while on the L train.
Footage of the generous act was soon spreading on social media.
