Isn’t it amazing how we can learn lessons of patriotism from something as delightful as ice cream? Let’s delve into a sweet tale that begins with a woman named Nancy Diemoz, the proud owner of an ice cream shop named Eskimo King in Swansea.
Nancy has been part of a remarkable initiative known as the ‘I Pledge Project’ since 2010. Originating in Savannah, Georgia, this initiative encourages children to recite the Pledge of Allegiance from memory to earn a free ice cream—an enriching and enjoyable deal indeed!
On July 1st, Eskimo King announced via Instagram the beginning of the 2024 season of this patriotic project. Every Monday in July, from 4-7 PM, children aged 12 and under can get a free scoop of chocolate, vanilla, or coffee ice cream or even a twist cone if they successfully recite the Pledge of Allegiance. What a delightful way to spend a summer evening!
The project is not just popular among children but also finds favor with the staff at Eskimo King. Lauren Morra, a 17-year-old employee, shares how Nancy, the shop owner, passionately advocates rekindling patriotism from an early age. Besides generously distributing ice cream, Nancy also consistently supports her community, including sponsoring a local baseball team.
