Immigration Sweep in Chicago Prompts Move to Charlotte

The Trump administration’s immigration enforcement machine appears to be rolling into Charlotte, North Carolina, next—marking a new chapter in its aggressive push to crack down on illegal immigration across the country.

According to federal law enforcement sources who spoke with The Daily Wire, plans are underway to redirect Border Patrol personnel from the ongoing “Operation Midway Blitz” raids in Chicago to the Queen City as early as this week.

Among those reportedly heading to Charlotte is Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino, who currently oversees the El Centro sector in California. Bovino has been a vocal supporter of the administration’s hardline immigration efforts and has played a visible role in recent operations. After his time in Charlotte, sources say he is expected to move on to New Orleans—another major sanctuary city that could soon find itself in federal crosshairs.

Bovino’s social media activity hints at his operational intent. In October, he responded to a user request for action in Charlotte with a pointed promise: “We’ll put Charlotte on the list!!!” And just this week, he posted again, touting the administration’s recent successes in Chicago: “Crime way down in Chicago thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership. This is Homeland Security in action.”

For now, the Department of Homeland Security has chosen to stay tight-lipped. “We do not discuss future or potential operations,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in a statement. “Every day, DHS enforces the laws of the nation across the country.”

The Charlotte deployment would follow the high-profile rollout in Chicago, where more than 200 Border Patrol agents were sent last month as part of a nationwide deportation surge. The operation has drawn harsh criticism from Democratic officials and immigrant advocacy groups, especially in sanctuary cities where local authorities often refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker was among the first to rebuke the Chicago raids. “The people of Chicago have deserved better than having CBP and Greg Bovino in this city,” he said at a recent press conference, vowing to “continue to protect our neighbors and our friends and our families.”

The resistance hasn’t been limited to political speeches. In Chicago, protestors have attempted to block ICE operations in real time, while intelligence sources report that cartels have issued bounties on federal agents’ lives—underscoring the dangerous and volatile environment surrounding these operations.

If Charlotte is indeed the next destination, the city could soon become another battleground in the administration’s escalating immigration campaign. As rhetoric intensifies and law enforcement operations grow bolder, the real question becomes how far these efforts will extend—and how cities will respond when federal authority collides with local resistance.
