For a bunch of folks running nothing more than a “formal inquiry”, the Democrats sure are making a lot of demands during their “impeachment” of Donald Trump.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others have simply refused to hold a House vote to authorize what they are calling a “formal impeachment inquiry” into the President’s behavior surrounding Ukraine. Of course, this method is both secretive and one-sided, forcing the White House to declare a stance of non-cooperation with the investigation until such a time as the process goes legit.
Now, in a brazen overreach of power, these impeachment-minded “resistance” Democrats are making demands of the Department of Justice.
Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats on Friday called for Attorney General William Barr to recuse himself from “Trump Ukraine matters” as an impeachment inquiry into the president continues.
In a letter to Barr, the panel’s ten Democrats accused the attorney general of having an “appearance of a conflict of interest” and urged him to recuse himself from all Ukraine-related affairs, which includes the department’s investigation into matters related to President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and his associates, Igor Fruman and Lev Parnas, who were recently indicted on campaign finance charges.
The letter was shared to Twitter.

Legal and political scholars seem to be at odds regarding the maneuvering of the Democrats at this stage, largely due to the fact that no precedent had yet been set for this sort of process.
In previous impeachment investigations, a special prosecutor had been assigned to oversee the probe, rather than the House of Representatives.
