When it comes to the spectacle that is the Super Bowl, there are but a few things to remember: The game will always be close in order to keep people watching, there will be something controversial about the halftime show, and no one will ever top Whitney Houston’s 1991 rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
In 2020, the game’s drama was provided by the late-game heroics of the Kansas City Chief’s star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who overcame a massive deficit and mounted a heroic comeback that will be talked about in the midwest for years. The halftime show was far more sexually charged than ever before, even without a Janet Jackson-style “wardrobe malfunction”. And, try as she might, Demi Lovato couldn’t touch this:
And, don’t get us wrong, Demi Lovato gave it a real shot, but it just wasn’t Whitney.
Heck, it wasn’t even powerful enough to get Jay- and Beyoncé to stand up.

Social media users were quick to pounce.

Is anyone shocked that Beyonce and JayZ sat during the National Anthem?
Ungrateful people live unhappy and ungrateful lives….

Listen Up Beyonce and Jay-Z!!
You don’t think it’s necessary to stand for our Anthem and our Flag!?
Countless lives have been lost defending that Flag so people like YOU can attend events like the Super Bowl in peace.
You should be EMBARRASSED for yourselves. What a disgrace.

Jay Z and Beyoncé sat during the National Anthem at the Super Bowl.
Seems to me, the people who benefit the most from this country also have the most hate for it…

Yeah…. sitting on their butts. No respect for America during National Anthem. Half time show 100 times better than Beyoncé’s ever was. https://t.co/x8czU1prQB

Jay-Z has been a vocal critic of the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick – a former second string quarterback for San Francisco who popularized kneeling during the anthem as a way to protest “racial inequality”.
