We have known for some time that Vladimir Putin has a death wish. Or, at the very latest, that he is dabbling in the sort of fatalism that the global tyrants before him never learned from.
In either case, it has become rather apparent that he doesn’t expect to make it out of this Ukraine invasion alive, and that he has no qualms about taking the rest of the planet down with him.
Even his surrogates in the Kremlin seem to be getting in on his peril fetish.
Should NATO approve Ukraine’s bid to join its organisation, a top Kremlin official threatened global destruction.
Alexander Venediktov, the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council said: “Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a guaranteed escalation to a World War 3″.
Venediktov has insisted that the West are solely making threats of nuclear war, despite his own president, Vladimir Putin, consistently teasing the use of nuclear weapons.
And then, as if we hadn’t gotten the message:
“We must remember: a nuclear conflict will affect absolutely the whole world, and not only Russia and the collective West, but in general any country on this planet.
“Its consequences will be catastrophic for all mankind.”
Moscow’s complete and utter disregard for human life has always been an undercurrent of their foreign relations ideologies, but this latest series of suggestions has jumped the shark.
