Ah, Hollywood hypocrisy at its finest. Eva Longoria, actress and Democratic Party darling, wants us to know she didn’t flee the United States over Donald Trump’s 2024 election win. Nope, her extended European vacation—sorry, work commitment—has nothing to do with her disdain for the “dystopian” state of America under Trump. Got it?
Speaking of Trump, Longoria said, “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
“If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” she added.

Let’s start with the facts. Longoria, in a recent Marie Claire interview, lamented how her “privilege” allows her to “escape” this supposedly hellish country. She expressed deep “anxiety and sadness” for the rest of us poor souls “stuck” here. And yet, when the backlash rolled in, she quickly pivoted, telling The View that her move abroad wasn’t about Trump at all. She blamed “divisive” clickbait for the misunderstanding. Sure, Eva, it’s everyone else’s fault your own words don’t paint a flattering picture.
“Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?” Longoria commented on “The View” on Friday. “I’ve been in Europe for almost three years. That’s in the article, by the way, the article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive. Which makes me so sad that everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can’t be that way right now.”
“I didn’t leave because of the political environment,” Longoria stated. “I left because my work took me there.”
“I’m a proud American,” Longoria continued. “I’ve always been a proud American. Proud Texan, proud American. I didn’t want it to be taken that I left because of Trump — absolutely not — or because of the elections.”
Longoria’s insistence that she’s a “proud American” rings a little hollow after calling the country “dystopian.” It’s even harder to square with her comments about California’s taxes and homelessness being contributing factors to her departure. If she’s such a proud Texan and American, where’s the pride in sticking around to address those issues instead of running off to Europe? But hey, it’s easier to criticize from afar while sipping espresso in a Parisian café.
The actress also couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Trump, calling him a “convicted criminal” and claiming his presidency is a harbinger of doom. Ironically, this comes from someone who endorsed Kamala Harris, whose campaign left the Democratic Party $20 million in debt and whose policies have done little to address the same issues Longoria fled. Talk about selective outrage.
Longoria’s flip-flopping is a masterclass in damage control. When she’s talking to her Hollywood bubble or progressive media, she’s all about “escaping” the nightmare that is America. But when faced with criticism, she suddenly morphs into the ever-patriotic Texan who just happens to work abroad. It’s a convenient narrative—one that lets her bash the country she claims to love while avoiding any real accountability.
Here’s the kicker: most Americans don’t have the luxury of jetting off to Europe when things get tough. They stay, work hard, and try to make the country better. Maybe Eva should take a page from their book instead of lecturing from across the Atlantic.
