With the World Series now in full swing, all eyes are back on the diamond as our national pastime saunters into its most exciting few weeks.
For many, the thrills of the ballpark comes with the highs and lows of the human drama involved, and topped with a few hot dogs, some popcorn, and and ice cold beer. Baseball is in our blood as US citizens, and one can only hope that the iconic game will be spared from the shame that both the NFL and NBA have faced in recent years.
This week, the MLB is investigating one of its own for making ludicrous, violent political statements online, in an effort to preserve the sanctity of the game.
A Major League Baseball umpire has come under fire for warning of civil war and saying that he was going to buy a rifle, if President Trump is impeached in secret.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, MLB umpire Rob Drake took exception to the secretive manner in which the impeachment proceedings against Trump have been conducted, and warned of future consequences.
“I will be buying an AR-15 tomorrow, because if you impeach MY PRESIDENT this way, YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER CIVAL WAR!!! #MAGA2020”
And that wasn’t all. Drake had earlier tweeted:
“You can’t do an impeachment inquiry from the basement of Capital Hill without even a vote! What is going on in this country?”
The spelling errors alone seem to indicate that the tweets came from someone for whom accuracy was not a priority.
And, given how many Braves’ games this author watched this year, it wouldn’t surprise me that such a shortsighted sentiment would be help by an umpire.
