Melania Comes Out On Top

A documentary film centered on First Lady Melania Trump has surged to the top of Amazon Prime’s movie rankings shortly after its streaming debut, signaling strong viewer interest following its earlier theatrical release.

The film, titled Melania, became the #1 movie on Amazon Prime in the United States and ranked #2 overall on the platform, which includes both films and television series. It was edged out only by the popular series Young Sherlock, which currently holds the top overall spot.

The documentary initially premiered in theaters nationwide in late January, where it reportedly achieved the largest box office opening for a documentary film in more than a decade. After its theatrical run, the film transitioned to streaming on Amazon Prime on March 9. A follow-up docu-series expanding on the story is expected to be released later.

Marc Beckman, a longtime advisor to Melania Trump and producer of the project, celebrated the streaming milestone along with the first lady. Both shared a graphic online highlighting the film’s chart performance, labeling it the “#1 Movie Prime Worldwide.”

Directed by Brett Ratner—best known for the Rush Hour film franchise—the documentary provides a behind-the-scenes look at Melania Trump during the 20 days leading up to President Donald Trump’s second inauguration. The film includes appearances from close members of her personal and professional circle, including longtime stylist Hervé Pierre. Pierre designed both of Melania Trump’s inaugural gowns, which are now part of the Smithsonian’s historical collection.

Promotion for the documentary featured a series of striking black-and-white images photographed by renowned fashion photographer Ellen Von Unwerth. Von Unwerth is widely known in the fashion world for helping launch the modeling career of Claudia Schiffer in the late 1980s through iconic Guess advertisements, and for photographing high-profile figures such as Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Gisele Bündchen, Pamela Anderson, and Rihanna.

The collaboration between Melania Trump and Von Unwerth also has personal history. The two first worked together in the 1990s when Von Unwerth photographed Trump for a Camel cigarette advertisement displayed in Times Square.

In promotional materials for the film, Melania Trump offers a brief but direct teaser of what viewers can expect. “Everyone wants to know,” she says in the trailer. “So here it is.”
