Michelle Obama Launches New Podcast With Her Brother

Michelle Obama is back with what America has clearly been yearning for—another podcast.

The former First Lady, whose every public move sends Democratic strategists into fits of speculative frenzy, has launched IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson, a show she co-hosts with her brother, aimed at discussing “everyday questions shaping our lives, relationships, and the world around us.”

If that sounds vague, well, that’s because it is. But don’t worry, the guest list is packed with A-list celebrities to make sure there’s plenty of star power to go around.

Seth Rogen, Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tyler Perry, Abby Wambach, Dwyane Wade, and even Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky are all lined up to chat with the Obamas in this latest venture from their production company, Higher Ground.

On the surface, it’s just another entry in the ever-expanding media empire of the Obamas, who have spent the post-White House years churning out books, Netflix deals, and, of course, podcasts. But for Democratic operatives desperate for a political lifeline, Michelle Obama’s every move is watched with the intensity of a campaign strategist searching for signs of a 2028 presidential bid.

And who can blame them? Obama has what no other Democrat in the current landscape possesses: massive name recognition, a deep well of goodwill, and the ability to command attention in a way that no sitting Democratic official—including President Joe Biden—can.

The Democratic Party hasn’t been able to generate positive headlines in nearly a year, but Michelle Obama stepping up to a microphone? That still gets traction.

For now, though, IMO is being billed as nothing more than a podcast. This is Obama’s third go-round in the audio space, following The Michelle Obama Podcast in 2020 and The Light We Carry in 2023, based on her book. Barack Obama, too, had his own foray into the format, teaming up with Bruce Springsteen for a series on American life.
