House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, has made allegations regarding President Joe Biden’s financial dealings with China. Comer claims that in 2017, then-Vice President Joe Biden received $40,000 in what he describes as “laundered China money” from the bank account of his brother and sister-in-law through a personal check. These allegations were detailed in a video posted by Comer. The claims come as part of Comer’s investigation into the Biden family’s business activities and whether President Biden had any involvement.
Comer suggests that President Biden benefited from his family’s business dealings with Chinese Communist Party-linked CEFC, stating that the “money trail” began in July 2017 when Hunter Biden demanded a $10 million payment from a CEFC associate. Hunter Biden allegedly claimed to be sitting with his father and warned the associate that consequences would follow if the money was not provided. This money was intended for Hunter Biden’s joint venture with CEFC called SinoHawk Holdings.
According to Comer, the $10 million was paid, and days later, $5 million from a Chinese affiliate of CEFC flowed into a joint venture established by Hunter Biden and Gongwen Dong. Subsequently, $400,000 was sent to a separate entity controlled by Hunter Biden, who then wired $150,000 to Lion Hall Group, a company owned by James Biden and his wife, Sara Biden. Sara Biden withdrew $50,000 in cash from Lion Hall Group and later deposited it into their personal checking account.
Comer claims that a few days later, Sara Biden wrote a $40,000 check to Joe Biden, with the memo line stating “loan repayment.” He emphasizes that even if it was indeed a loan repayment, it still shows that Joe Biden benefited from his family’s financial dealings with China.
The House Oversight Committee’s investigation has also revealed evidence of additional payments from Chinese companies to Joe Biden, along with significant payments from individuals and companies in China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Romania to the Biden family and their associates. According to Comer, these payments totaled more than $24 million between 2014 and 2019.
Regarding a previous allegation, Comer stated that in 2018, Joe Biden received a $200,000 direct payment in the form of a personal check labeled “loan repayment” from James Biden and Sara Biden. Comer alleges that James Biden received $600,000 in loans from a financially distressed rural hospital operator, Americore, based on his political connections.

The White House responded to these allegations by stating that President Biden, as a private citizen, loaned his brother money when needed and was repaid, as documented in bank records. White House spokesman Ian Sams accused Comer of spreading lies and conspiracy theories in response to these allegations.
