The gaping maw of Moscow’s war machine is gnashing its teeth in the outskirts of several Ukrainian cities as I write this, howling and booming and attempting to show the world just how well-endowed Vladimir Putin really is.
But there’s just one problem in this phallic farce, (with all dictatorial incursions identifying as such), and it’s that Putin is not winning. Not in the least. In fact, the Russian army has been embarrassingly bad at their jobs during the invasion, as the Ukrainian Army, (along with a vast number of civilians), continue to beat them senseless in the streets of Kyiv and beyond.
And so what does the petulant Putin do? He threatens to nuke the world.
In a dramatic escalation of East-West tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian nuclear deterrent forces put on alert Sunday in response to what he called “aggressive statements” by leading NATO powers.
The move means Putin has ordered Russia’s nuclear weapons prepared for increased readiness to launch, raising the threat that the tensions could boil over into a nuclear war. In giving it, the Russian leader also cited hard-hitting financial sanctions imposed by the West against Russia, including Putin himself.
The threat was largely lambasted on social media, where the same lazy jokes about Putin’s overcompensation continued to spawn unabated.
The Russians have agreed to meet with the Ukrainian government on the border between their nation and Belarus on Monday.
