Halfway around the world, a storm is brewing, and there is no telling who is willing to stand out in front of it.
Vladimir Putin, Russian President, is said to be preparing for something malevolent on Christmas Eve, with troops amassing on the border of Ukraine.
Intelligence chiefs have warned ministers of a “very real possibility” Russia could invade Ukraine on Christmas Eve.
It would coincide with the 42nd anniversary of the Soviet Union’s ill-fated invasion of Afghanistan.
Up to 100,000 Russian troops are massed on the border.
Both the Ministry of Defence and the Foreign Office refused to comment on what action the UK might take in the event of a Russian invasion.
Can he be stopped?
Colonel Richard Kemp, a former commander in Afghanistan said: “There is no possibility of direct military intervention by the UK, NATO or the US in the event of a Russian attack against Ukraine.
Leaders in Ukraine were concerned, and rightly so.
The tiny European nation is not a part of NATO, and therefore wouldn’t likely find themselves with any military help from aligned nations. This leaves just the possibility of international sanctions to deter the belligerent Putin…and it is well understood that the former KGB man isn’t going to be swayed by that alone.
