While Norman fights for the seat, Trump supports Nordone if she decides to run in the primary. The special election is set for August 11, 2026. Nordone will serve until January 3, 2027, which ends the 119th Congress. She took office after her brother died at age 71 from a “brief and sudden illness.” The office issued that statement on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Not everyone agrees with the President’s choice. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) threw his support behind Norman instead. He said on X that he “wholeheartedly” endorses the Congressman. Lee asked, “Who’s with me?” This shows a split in the party over who should lead South Carolina next. According to Breitbart, Norman is ready to fight for the seat despite the opposition.
