According to a survey conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, just over half of voters agree that President Joe Biden received special treatment during the special counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into his handling of classified documents.
The poll was conducted for four days and released on Tuesday morning. It revealed that 53% of Americans believe that Biden received special treatment because he is the US president. This included 29% of Democrats who agreed with this statement. It is important to note that this poll is non-partisan and is not in favor of any political party.
Just last week, Hur released his report on Biden’s handling of classified documents. It stated that there is evidence that the president willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen.
However, the special counsel concluded that no criminal charges are warranted in this matter. Hur also described Biden as an elderly man with a poor memory and argued that it would be unlikely for him to be convicted of a serious felony.
The poll also revealed some other unsettling findings for Biden’s re-election campaign. It showed that 78% of those surveyed, including 71% of Democrats, believe that the president is too old to remain in government. This is in contrast to 53% of respondents who believe that former President Donald Trump, who is 77 years old, is too old to be elected to office.
Trump, who is also facing his own classified documents case, reacted to Hur’s report by saying that the decision to clear Biden shows “selective persecution.” He also noted that he should not be charged if the president is not going to be charged. Trump has maintained his innocence, stating that he is protected by the Presidential Records Act.
In contrast, Biden addressed the report during a press conference last Thursday. He stated that the investigation’s conclusion means that the classified documents scandal is now behind him.
However, he also snapped at reporters who asked him about Hur’s less-than-flattering description of his memory. Biden responded by saying that he is the most qualified person in the United States to be president.

This poll has stirred up some controversy and highlights the divide in opinions among the American people. It is concerning to see the majority of voters believe that the president received special treatment. This raises questions about the justice system and its fairness.
