Ted Cruz and Texas GOP Leaders Sound Alarm on Islamism

Texas officials met in Dallas this week for the Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention. The main topic was the rapid growth of Islam in the state. Lawmakers say this expansion could change the identity of Texas forever. State Rep. Brian Harrison told the Daily Signal that voters are scared. He said they see photos and videos from Europe and the United Kingdom. They worry that same trouble could happen right here in Texas.

Harrison argued that officials cannot wait until November to act. He believes the threat is already here this year. He stated that the state should not fund groups that want to overthrow the government. Harrison stated that funding groups linked to those advocating violent overthrow of Texas or the U.S. government is wrong. This is the bare minimum. He also expressed worry about current grant programs.

U.S. Rep. Keith Self introduced a resolution titled “Denouncing Sharia Law in the United States.” The text says elected officials must protect citizens and keep the liberties given by the Founders. Meanwhile, Rep. Chip Roy sent a letter to federal leaders in Washington. He asked them to check a planned Islamic development near Camp Bullis. Roy urges officials to check for violations of criminal, civil, financial, or immigration laws regarding the campus expansion project.

Congressional candidate Brandon Herrera also spoke at the event. He covers the district from San Antonio to El Paso. Herrera said the rise in Islam should worry all Texans. He cautioned that without action, the issue will accelerate and fundamentally alter the state’s identity. He noted that people are already seeing these changes in Dallas-Fort Worth and his own area.

Sen. Ted Cruz used his speech to connect different political threats. He spoke about the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination and the 9/11 attacks. Cruz described a “red-green alliance” between communists and Islamists. He claimed this group hates Christians, Jews, capitalism, and the Constitution. Cruz shared his family’s history with communism in Cuba. He noted that Islamism also generates murder and oppression, ranging from forced hijab wearing to stoning rape victims.

Cruz specifically targeted Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. He asked why El-Sayed refuses to disavow streamer Hasan Piker. Piker once said America “deserved 9/11.” Cruz said their threats are not just empty words. He closed by quoting his father, who fled Cuba. His father questioned where we would go if freedom were lost here in America. Cruz answered that they will stand up and defend the nation.
