Trump Announces ‘AI Force’ And Plans For AI Czar Amid Safety Debate

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to announce a new “AI Force” and a plan to name an artificial intelligence czar. He said this move would help the country grow its tech sector while watching for bad actors.

The president argued that the government does not need to slow down this industry to keep it safe. He wrote that the existing criminal and civil justice systems are enough to handle any problems. Trump stated he will not let anyone hinder the growth of this incredible industry.

The announcement comes after big tech leaders warned that AI is moving too fast. Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Elon Musk leading xAI, and Sam Altman from OpenAI all stated that progress ought to decelerate. They cited close calls with the technology as a reason to pause. Trump dismissed these warnings as a hoax. He compared the push to stop AI to past political controversies like “Russia, Russia, Russia” and “Global Warming.” He wrote that the “Radical Left Dumocrats” generated these hoaxes to destroy the country.

Congress is now debating how to handle these safety fears without losing ground to China. Senator Tim Kaine told Fox News Digital that he does not think the president really knows what he is talking about. However, he also said we do not need to be “complete doomsdayers” about the risk.

Representative Steny Hoyer noted that the president says almost everything he disagrees with is a hoax. Senator Tim Sheehy argued that it is not unreasonable to expect some guardrails. He further noted that artificial intelligence would become the most transformative technology of our time.

Some lawmakers worry that stopping now will hand a victory to our rivals. Representative Nancy Mace told Fox News that China is the only one who benefits if the United States slows down. She warned that if we stop now, “China’s going to eat our lunch.” She also suggested that the AI companies asking for a slowdown might have hidden motives. Senator Martin Heinrich said it is time for Congress to do its job when business leaders express concern. He noted that people pay attention when companies admit their own products have issues.

The data center industry supports millions of American jobs. Research conducted by PwC revealed employment climbed from 2.9 million in 2017 to 4.7 million in 2023. However, costs are rising in some places. Electricity prices in California jumped roughly 96 percent between 2014 and 2024.

A Gallup poll from May shows that 75 percent of Americans oppose building data centers near their homes. Trump claimed that the attacks on data centers have largely failed because they bring higher salaries and safer streets to local communities.

The president forecasted that artificial intelligence might ultimately represent up to 25 percent of U.S. gross domestic product. He did not cite a source for this number. He also asked people to vote on a new name for the technology. He suggested terms like “Superior Intelligence” or “Supreme Intelligence” instead of “Artificial Intelligence.” He said he will announce the name of the AI czar in the near future. He noted that only high I.Q. individuals need apply for the role. The Daily Caller‘s inquiries for comment received no immediate reply from the White House.
