Trump was loathed among the left, as his rampant rise to power was like nothing that they had ever seen before. The fervor of his supporters was something that the Democratic Party could only dream about, having never been able to fully rouse their base the way that Trump did with the GOP.
But now that he’s out of office, (and likely eyeing an election campaign in 2024), the left is out to bury him in a bad reputation.
This means, at least for the New York Attorney General, subpoenaing his children in a probe of their father’s business. Ivanka and Don Jr., however, are not going to be playing along.
Two of Donald Trump’s children have refused to testify to a fraud inquiry into the family’s business.
Donald Jr, 44, and Ivanka, 40, were ordered to give evidence by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
She opened a civil inquiry in 2019 into claims that – before he took office – Mr Trump had inflated the value of his assets to banks when seeking loans.
Mr Trump’s lawyers are trying to stop Ms James from questioning the former US president and his children.
They have asked a judge to quash the “unprecedented and unconstitutional” bid for their testimony.
Former President Trump has insisted that the entire NY investigation is nothing more than a politically-motivated witch hunt aimed at harming his future ambitions in Washington DC.
