People are dying. A lot of people. And many more will die in the coming days, from an enemy we cannot see, and whose arrival was largely misrepresented by those who first recognized what was happening.
The President and his team believe that we could reach the peak of the crisis around Easter Sunday, and then being to make progress from there. How appropriate the symbolism of a resurrected Christ will be as we venture back into the world again, someday.
But, in the midst of fighting our way through the mental and physical battles ahead, the Democratic Party wants to tie up valuable resources in another partisan investigation of Donald Trump.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday announced the creation of a new bipartisan House select committee on the coronavirus crisis that will exercise oversight of the federal response to the pandemic and be chaired by Majority Whip Jim Clyburn.
The speaker told reporters on a conference call that the committee’s immediate focus will be on “the here and now,” not the Trump administration’s initial response to the pandemic, though she said there will come a time when such a review will be appropriate.
She said the committee will “have an expert staff and the committee will be empowered to examine all aspects of the federal response to coronavirus and to ensure that the taxpayers dollars are being wisely and efficiently spent to save lives, deliver relief, and benefit our economy.”
The President was quick to lash out at the news during a White House press Briefing.
“This is not the time for politics,” Trump said. “Endless partisan investigations – here we go again – have already done extraordinary damage to our country in recent years. You see what happens. It’s witch hunt after witch hunt after witch hunt, and in the end the people doing the witch hunt have been losing, and they’ve been losing by a lot.”
As the death toll rises here in the US, the American people aren’t likely to remain patient through a prolonged political battles, especially if economic stimulus winds up caught in the middle of a POTUS-Pelosi urination competition.
