It’s happening. The bureaucratic behemoth that is USAID—the bloated, unaccountable agency that has funneled billions of taxpayer dollars into leftist pet projects and corrupt foreign regimes—is being shut down. And despite the predictable howls from D.C. insiders and Democratic politicians, there’s absolutely nothing they can do to stop it.
Employees arrived Monday morning to find they’d been locked out of their computer systems and barred from entering the agency’s Washington headquarters. An email directed them to work remotely “at the direction of Agency leadership,” which now means Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—the federal cost-cutting powerhouse Trump put in charge of cleaning up Washington’s financial mess.
And Musk himself wasted no time making it official. During an X Spaces livestream, he declared that Trump had agreed: USAID is beyond repair, and it’s time to shut it down.
“It became apparent that it’s not an apple with a worm,” Musk said. “What we have is just a ball of worms. You’ve got to basically get rid of the whole thing.”
This isn’t just about cutting waste—it’s about exposing decades of corruption, incompetence, and left-wing ideological warfare waged on the American taxpayer’s dime. Let’s take a look at just some of USAID’s greatest hits:
- $53 million funneled to EcoHealth Alliance, the now-debarred nonprofit that funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where COVID-19 just so happened to emerge.
- Billions in foreign aid to countries that hate America, including corrupt governments in Ukraine, Ethiopia, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- Millions in LGBTQ+ activism funding, including grants for gender ideology and trans rights campaigns in deeply conservative nations where this “aid” serves only to create chaos.
- Funding to support South Africa, a country where the government has openly embraced land confiscation policies and racial discrimination—policies Musk and Trump have both condemned as blatant human rights violations.
And now, after decades of this agency operating as an unaccountable slush fund for the globalist left, its employees are suddenly in full panic mode.
Just look at what happened over the weekend.
DOGE teams showed up at USAID’s headquarters, requested access to secure areas, and were immediately met with resistance from career bureaucrats who thought they could ignore presidential authority. Two security officials refused to comply—so they were placed on leave. Then, USAID’s own chief of staff, Matt Hopson, resigned on the spot.
Meanwhile, 600+ employees have been locked out of their systems, unable to do anything as foreign aid projects screech to a halt. Aid organizations are now firing workers en masse because the Trump administration’s funding freeze has turned off the money spigot they’ve been relying on for years.
This is exactly how you dismantle a corrupt government agency. Not with endless hearings or symbolic budget cuts, but by denying them access to their own systems and forcing them to confront the fact that their jobs are completely unnecessary.
And yet, Democrats are pretending this is some kind of crisis.
Elizabeth Warren is hyperventilating, claiming that DOGE’s moves at the Treasury Department—where Musk’s team uncovered massive fraud in government payments—somehow put Americans’ economic security at risk. In reality, it did the exact opposite. By exposing the reckless spending habits of government bureaucrats, Musk and Trump are protecting taxpayers from the very incompetence Warren and her ilk want to preserve.
The left-wing media is screaming that Trump is “illegally bypassing Congress” to shut down USAID. News flash: Congress never had a problem when Biden unilaterally handed billions to Ukraine without oversight. But now, when a Republican president decides to clean house? Suddenly, it’s a constitutional crisis.
