White House Cites Drop In Trans Deaths To Defend Trump Policies

The White House is pointing to new data to defend President Trump’s policies. They say the numbers show a drop in violent deaths among transgender people. According to the Daily Signal, White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis shared this data on Thursday. She stated, “The data proves the president’s law-and-order policies have benefited all Americans.” President Trump was asserted by her to have achieved the biggest drop in violent crime ever seen in American history.

The data comes from groups like the Human Rights Campaign and Advocates for Trans Equality. The Human Rights Campaign tracks these deaths every year starting on Nov. 21. By Nov. 20, 2023, that organization tallied exactly 33 fatalities. In the next year, they counted 36 deaths. However, during the latest year, the same group recorded just 27 deaths. Advocates for Trans Equality saw a similar trend. They counted 53 deaths in 2023, then 43, and finally 27 in the latest period.

This decline happened while the Human Rights Campaign warned that anti-trans policies cause violence. Their 2024 report claimed people face exclusion that leads to a culture of transphobia. Yet the FBI says the nation’s violent crime rate dropped 9.3% in 2025. Murders and nonnegligent manslaughters decreased by 18.1%. The White House says this proves their approach works for everyone.

Major hospital systems are also changing how they treat minors. Starting in May, six hospital networks consented to cease offering sex-rejecting treatments to minors. These systems include Texas Children’s Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Connecticut Children’s Hospital. Additional entities are Mount Sinai Health System, NYU Langone Hospitals, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. These hospitals reached settlements with the Trump administration.

The Human Rights Campaign called this trend a crisis for families. Kelley Robinson, leading HRC, stated, “Our thoughts are with the countless families across the country who feel scared and under siege.” The group argues that these procedures are best-practice and potentially life-saving health care. They claim anti-trans laws lead to violence against transgender people.

The Department of Health and Human Services pushes back hard against these claims. An HHS spokesperson told the Daily Signal on Friday that activists are making unfounded claims. They argue that shielding children from irreversible sex-rejecting procedures does not constitute discrimination. The spokesperson warned that these claims distract from serious medical risks facing vulnerable children.

President Trump reversed many Biden-era policies during his first year in his second term. Recognition of gender identity over biological sex within the executive branch was terminated by him. He also stopped support for transgender medical procedures. The White House says these steps are necessary to restore law and order. Lauren Bis added that radical Democrats want sex-change surgeries for children and cashless bail. She said President Trump will take strong action to protect children from dangerous medical practices.

Some groups say violent-death counts are not the whole story. In 2025, GLAAD’s ALERT Desk project documented over 1,000 anti-LGBTQ+ incidents. These included assaults, vandalism, and threats. That organization asserted 2025 marked one of the most perilous years ever for LGBTQ+ Americans. However, their report counts both criminal and non-criminal expressions of hate. This includes protests and other actions that are not crimes.

The HHS spokesperson concluded that these procedures carry significant risks to children’s physical and mental health. They said these risks include lifelong consequences. Under President Trump and Secretary Kennedy’s leadership, HHS will continue putting children’s health first.
