In yet another stunning example of government waste, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has uncovered that millions of taxpayer dollars have been funneled into bizarre experiments creating transgender monkeys, mice, and rats. Yes, you read that correctly. While inflation squeezes American families and federal debt soars, the Biden administration has been busy funding invasive surgeries and hormone treatments on lab animals—all in the name of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI).
Mace, a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, brought this issue to light in a scathing post on X, where she outlined just how much taxpayer money has been wasted on these unethical experiments.

Her statement reads:
“Late last year the White Coat Waste Project exposed that more than $10 million dollars in taxpayer funds were spent creating transgender mice, rats, and monkeys.”
“These DEI grants funded painful and deadly transgender experiments that forced lab animals to undergo invasive surgeries and hormone therapies at universities across the country.”
“For example, the Biden-Harris Administration spent $2.5 million taxpayer dollars to study the fertility of transgender mice.”
If this sounds like something out of a dystopian novel, that’s because it is. The federal government is not only throwing away taxpayer money but doing so in ways that are scientifically questionable, ethically indefensible, and completely unnecessary.
To address this insanity, Rep. Mace is leading a hearing titled “Transgender Lab Rats and Poisoned Puppies: Oversight of Taxpayer-Funded Animal Cruelty.” The hearing will examine the massive waste of taxpayer dollars on unnecessary animal experiments, while also exploring technological alternatives that could replace the need for animal testing.
In her formal press release, Mace emphasized that the government “misuses billions of taxpayer dollars on unnecessary animal experiments every year.” She also pointed out that “non-animal testing alternatives, driven by increasingly sophisticated technological tools, can more accurately model human biology and replace the need for animal experimentation.”
Let’s be clear: there is a place for the use of animals in medical research. Some diseases and conditions cannot be studied without living organisms, and certain life-saving advancements have come from such research. But this? This is neither life-saving nor necessary.
At a time when Americans are being taxed into oblivion, the idea that their hard-earned dollars are paying for the creation of transgender mice is beyond absurd. What possible benefit does this serve the American people? How does this contribute to the well-being of society?
The simple answer: It doesn’t.
This isn’t science. It’s political ideology masquerading as research. And it needs to be defunded—immediately.
