Trump, DeSantis Trade First Blows of 2024 Campaigns

While there have yet to be any official announcements made regarding the 2024 Republican presidential primary, Americans have a fairly good idea of exactly what’s going on already.

Donald Trump, the MAGA figurehead and former President is almost surely going to run again, having made that clear in a number of interviews and statements over the course of the last several months.

But he’s not the only one, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis making all the necessary maneuvers to position himself for a shot at the White House, albeit quietly and with no fanfare whatsoever.

Trump understands what’s going on though, and he’s already begun to mock DeSantis in an effort to get out ahead of any potential announcement that the Sunshine State lawmaker will make…and it has other prominent Republicans lining up to take sides.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo rushed to defend Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis after former President Donald Trump dubbed the Republican “Ron DeSanctimonious” at a rally Saturday evening.

“Not tired of winning. @GovRonDeSantis you’ve proven conservative policies work. Florida is better for it. Vote for @GovRonDeSantis,” Pompeo tweeted Saturday evening.

Trump had made the quip during an appearance in a state that could very well decide the 2024 election.

The comment came as Trump held a rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania on Saturday ahead of Tuesday’s Election Day.

“We’re winning big in the Republican Party for the nomination like nobody’s ever seen before,” Trump told the crowd before listing other Republicans who could potentially challenge him in 2024.

“There it is, Trump at 71%, Ron DeSanctimonious at 10%,” Trump told the crowd while reading approval numbers of various Republicans.

Trump’s disdain for DeSantis’ potential ’24 campaign has been well-noted by anonymous insiders for a while now, but this marks one of the first public attacks that the former President has made against the Florida Governor.
