President Trump has once again forced Democrats into the most self-destructive position imaginable: defending violent crime in America’s cities. They may not frame it that way, of course—but that’s exactly how it looks to ordinary Americans watching from the sidelines.
The formula is simple. Trump deploys the National Guard in Washington, D.C., and the result is measurable: twelve straight days without a homicide. Residents themselves, even those reluctant to admit it, concede the city feels safer. He then hints at expanding the same model to Chicago and other crime-plagued metros. And what do Democrats do? They scream “dictator,” “authoritarian,” and “flagrant violation of the Constitution.” In other words, they line up on the side of chaos rather than order.
Cities with highest violent crime rates:

2. Detroit, MI
3. Baltimore, MD
4. Houston, TX
5. Nashville, TN
6. Denver, CO
7. Washington, DC
8. Philadelphia, PA
9. Indianapolis, IN
10. Phoenix, AZhttps://t.co/gRx2KQX6Q0— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) August 23, 2025
The Associated Press, predictably, tried its favorite spin trick: accuse Trump of “seizing.” Their report read like clockwork: “Indeed, the vast majority of Americans, 81%, see crime as a ‘major problem’ in large cities — a concern Trump has seized on as he has deployed the National Guard to the District of Columbia and threatened to expand that model to cities across the country. And his overall approval rating has increased slightly, from 40% in July to 45% now.”
There it is. Not that Trump addressed the number one concern of urban residents. Not that his approval rating rose as a result. No, no—the story is that he “seized.” Heaven forbid a president notice what 81% of Americans already say is a major problem.

But spin aside, the reality is brutal for Democrats. They’ve taken the 20% side of another 80–20 issue. They would rather brand Trump as a dictator than admit his crackdown worked. They would rather shield their ideological dogma than protect their own citizens. Why? Because Trump Derangement Syndrome still governs their reflexes. If Trump is for it, they must be against it—even if that means standing shoulder-to-shoulder with carjackers and repeat offenders.
And the public sees it. Interviews on the ground in D.C. reveal residents relieved to walk streets that finally feel safe. It’s not hard: most law-abiding Americans want security first. They want their kids to walk to school without fear, their cars to remain in their driveways overnight, their stores not to be looted in broad daylight.

Democrats have made their priorities clear, and public safety is not on the list. Trump has made his clear as well, and Americans are noticing. Every time Democrats choose ideology over order, Trump’s hand only strengthens.
